Alucard was a botanist working in Dawntide's Botanical Archive. He was part of the head botanist’s elite team, researchers dedicated to maintaining the archive and creating useful crossbreeds of plants. Alucard understood his job clearly and excelled at it. Many speculated that if he continued down this path, he might one day be nominated to become the next head botanist.

His life's goal was to find cures for diseases through plants, dedicating his work to crossbreeding them. Much of his research led him to the Blood Rose, a species of rose that thrived in bloodied soil and corpses. The way they interacted with blood made them very useful for creating crossbreeds... most of the time.

Alucard had an idea he wanted to test involving the Blood Rose and another plant with parasitic properties, but the results were not as expected. The parasitic plant's properties only affected other plants, but it seemed that when combined with the aspects of the Blood Rose, that was no longer the case. He pricked his hand on the rose thorns, as he tended to do for crossbreeds of this nature, to wet the soil with blood, and went along with his day.

Later that night, however, he found himself lying in bed feeling horribly ill. His body ached with pain, and he had an unusual craving that, no matter what he did, would not be sated. He passed out hours later from the pain. However, in the early morning light of the sunrise, he found himself in the forest just outside Dawntide. As he came to, he noticed his hands and face were covered in blood that was not his own, and he began to panic... until he noticed the small, bloodied corpse of a rabbit sprawled beside him. It didn't look like any of it had been eaten; rather, its blood had been sucked dry. The agonizing pain that wracked his body the previous night was gone, and he was sated.

Alucard was horrified by the scene, and even more so by what he assumed he had done. But he needed to see for himself if this was truly his work or if it was some kind of sick prank to horrify him. He waited in the woods for hours, waiting for the hunger he felt the previous night to return... and a few hours later, it did. Another rabbit scurried through the forest, and he lunged. He caught it, and with what felt like instinct, proceeded to sink his teeth into it and draw the blood from the creature. Once again, he was sated.

This discovery was definitely a bit unnerving... but could it have its benefits? He decided to devote his efforts to researching this crossbreed's potential exclusively. This plant took up days, weeks, even months of his research. Alucard's coworkers were worried about his fixation and reported it to the head botanist. After a heated debate between the head botanist and him, he took the crossbreed and stormed out.

Not much is known about Alucard's activities past this event, but many of his coworkers believe he is still studying the plant privately. A worrying fact, considering what has been discovered about the plant he created. Alucard mistakenly left one specimen behind, and it was heavily researched by the remaining botanists. They have discovered its vampiric properties, as well as a cure soon after. The plant, now known as the Vampire Rose, has been deemed a hazard to society and must be reported to the Botanical Archive immediately upon detection.
