Traits
Shell (Layer 1)
Shells are non-living protective outer casings formed on the body typically made from keratin, bone/exoskeleton, or most commonly, calcium.
Shells are able to take any shape or form as long as it remains visible and stays located on the backside of the Tatsukoi!
A Tatsukoi may enter their shell if said shell is large enough for them to reasonably tuck their body inside.
These shells may also be purely decorative!
This trait can be paired with other traits!
Horns (Layer 1)
Pieces of bone or keratin strictly attached to a Tatsukoi's head.
These can be found anywhere on top of the head and can be any shape and size as long and it is completely solid and impervious to movement and is able to mimic horns from any preexisting species.
Tatsukoi can have no more than 20 horns upon the head.
This trait can be paired with other traits!
Spikes (Layer 2)
Solid protrusions from the skin that can be made of any hard material.
When placed on the head, make sure to define a difference between the spikes and horns!
There is no limit for how many spikes may be placed on the body as long as it does not obscure basic Tatsukoi anatomy.
This trait can be paired with other traits!
Saber Teeth (Layer 2)
Abnormally large curved fang-like teeth.
Typically this applies to the main two incisor teeth, but these can affect any one of the teeth with no limit to how many of the teeth can be affected at once, however, it must remain in the traditional “sabre” shape.
Sabre teeth can range in size, but have to still allow mobility, a walrus or elephant’s tusks best describe what would be a maximum size for them.
This trait can be paired with other traits!
Body Fins (Layer 2)
A flattened appendage often used for propelling, steering, and balancing found on a Tatsukoi outside of their aquatic tail section!
Any fins on the tail, do not require this trait as such!
These fins can also be any shape that the creator chooses so long as it does not mimic other traits, such as Gliding Membrane or Aesthetic Wings.
This trait can be paired with other traits!
Scale Plates (Layer 3)
Clusters of abnormally large reinforced scales to act as protection.
They can appear anywhere on the body and be in small patches of one to two scales or much larger clusters of dozens of scales.
Tatsukoi may of course have visible scales or stylized scales without the need for this trait, defined best by scale plates being completely separated from the skin while normal scales tend to blend into the skin or appear as patterns!
This trait can be paired with other traits!
Tentacles (Layer 3)
Single-form appendage or limb, lacking bones, that has prehensile capabilities.
These tentacles can sprout from any part of the body or even replace parts, such as the hair or tail.
These appendages, however, cannot resemble traditional limbs or have independent thought without the corresponding traits.
This trait is not affected by the Extra Limbs trait.
This trait can be paired with other traits!
Color Change (Layer 3)
Allows the Tatsukoi to shift the hue and value of their skin to have a wider selection of palettes.
This color change must be predetermined though and needs to have some sort of visual representation on the Masterlist image.
There is no limit to how many additional palettes a Tatsukoi may have and color change is allowed to affect only certain parts of the body/markings without affecting the body in its entirety.
Additionally, you may not use this trait to apply any form of pattern changes to your Tatsukoi, this includes using color change to hide pre existing patterns.
This trait can be paired with other traits!
Mutated Eyes (Layer 4)
The eyes of a Tatsukoi now shift and morph around the body either multiplying in amount or decreasing in amount.
Multiple eyes can now appear anywhere on the body with no limit to how many nor what color or appearance they have as it does not obscure basic Tatsukoi anatomy.
Some eyes fuse into sharing one socket to create a cyclops eye in the middle of the face, while others may lose the eye sockets in their skull altogether, leaving them completely eyeless.
This trait can be paired with other traits!
Bioluminescence (Layer 4)
Parts of the Tatsukoi’s body are affected by energy being released within the body caused by chemical reactions either inside the body or by ejecting the energy outside of the body.
This glow must be predetermined though and needs to have some sort of visual representation on the Masterlist image.
There is no limit to how much of a Tatsukoi’s body may be affected by bioluminescence nor how bright it can present.
This trait can be paired with other traits!
Transparent Body (Layer 4)
True transparency, meaning the ability to see shapes through the body clearly even if not with clear detail, that has the ability to appear all over the Tatsukoi’s body including but not limited to skin, horns, shells, and claws.
Things that are translucent, meaning only partially see-through at a surface level or when exposed to external conditions like seeing veins through the skin, does not require this trait.
(Please note that any man-made transparency such as vials, blown glass, plastic, etc. falls underneath Mechanical Installation!)
This trait can be paired with other traits!
Extra Limbs (Layer 4)
Additional limb growth that extends outside of the standard Tatsukoi anatomy in quantity affecting the arms, legs, ears, and tail.
This trait does not affect the Tentacles trait.
The limit of how many you may have per body party affected is 10, as an example you may have up to 10 arms or 5 pairs of arms.
This trait can be paired with other traits!
Eye Shields (Layer 5)
Hard domes over the eyes for protection from debris.
Can vary in terms of visibility and does not have to be a solid color, it may have patterns or not.
They can take any shape but cannot extend significantly past the eyes, the limit being the brow line.
This trait can be paired with other traits!
Functional Wings (Layer 5)
Medium to large sized wings capable of flight.
These wings can take various forms such as dragonic, feathered avian, and insectoid wings.
Wings are able to be fairly small without falling into needing to be Aesthetic Wings.
This trait can be paired with other traits!
Climbing Talons (Layer 5)
Abnormally large, reinforced claws that allow Tatsukoi to attach to surfaces that would otherwise be difficult to.
These claws can appear on both the hands and feet and often look akin to mole or bird claws.
Natural claws may still be larger than average without needing to be climbing talons.
This trait can be paired with other traits!
Gliding Membrane (Layer 5)
A thin membrane that appears between two distinct points on a Tatsukoi’s body, allowing them to glide through the air.
This can teter and taper into whatever shape the creator desires.
This membrane can be located anywhere on the main body of a Tatsukoi and can span to double their body size.
This trait can be paired with other traits!
Plant Growth (Layer 6)
Life ranging from plantae to fungi are able to grow within a Tatsukoi’s body with a relative ease, similar to a kind of symbiosis.
Symbiotic relationships between the growth and Tatsukoi can be anything under mutualistic, commensalistic, parasitic, or a mix.
This also does not have to strictly be based on a real life fungi or plantae.
This trait can be paired with other traits!
Aesthetic Wings (Layer 6)
Small wings capable of both movement and stillness but are incapable of generating flight for the Tatsukoi.
Can take the same form variations as functional wings such as dragonic, feathered avian, and insectoid wings.
They may be larger than average without having to be Functional Wings.
This trait can be paired with other traits!
Crystal Growth (Layer 6)
Organic or inorganic material typically found within the earth of Mare Noctis that is growing out of or inside of a Tatsukoi’s body.
This presents itself as gemstones, rock, or crystals that appear to be jutting out, growing underneath, or deeply embedded into the Tatsukoi’s body down to their very core.
These growths can be categorized by protrusions either externally or internally.
Flat/fush with the skin, shiny markings on a Tatsukoi can be marked down as Iridescence without any issue.
If you'd simply like to have internal crystal growth that is flush with the skin, however, we ask you provide an x-ray or some type of guide showing the internal crystal growth and we can mark it down as Crystal Growth instead of Iridescence.
Example below:
Iridescence (Layer 1)
This refers to any shiny material that sits on top of the skin or is flush to the body, be it markings, scales, or horns.
This shine can be any mix of colors or present itself in many ways, as an example it may be akin to slime or metal.
(Please see Crystal Growth if you'd like a polished and ebedded material growing into the skin, excluding but not limited to accessories.)
