[WB-FAUNA] Vinxes

0 Favorites ・ 0 Comments

Vinxes are rare, small mammals of rational and sophisticated intelligence that present characteristics of multiple creatures, including canidae, felines, and even tatsukoi.

While their bodies are quadrupedal, their faces seem to relate somewhat to your regular tatsukoi, even if on a smaller scale, and Vinxes tend to present whiskers similarly so. They are long-lived creatures that don't reproduce very often, instead opting to aggregate themselves with other groups, preferably of similar cognitive abilities, so that they may share in bonding and familial connections. It is more common to see these creatures overseeing a family, clan, or institution as assistants and councilors, keeping track of records from past occurrences and historical facts, and even taking a nurturing role over the members of said group. They do not accept being treated as pets, but won't refuse chin scratches from their favorite people.

In contrast, upon first meeting, they tend not to get along with each other, measuring their personalities from a distance and exchanging very subtle communications, but may eventually come to associate in time. That stems from the fact that Vinxes seem to be rather competitive, especially when talking about their abilities, families, and work, and may initiate a turf war if both sides don't see eye to eye.

They can be extremely loyal companions, dotting on their favorite people and acting as secretaries, coordinators, and even nannies, but they do require a certain level of pampering to keep doing so, and might even stubbornly refuse to help if their demands are not met.

Vinxes are considered Mesocarnivores and tend to favor meat, but will partake in all sorts of meals and ingredients, including fruits, greens, and, in desperate times, insects.

Characteristics

Vinxes come in many shapes and colors, but they do have some characteristics that keep them recognizable:

1. Head:
- They share similar traits with Tatsukoi, but their nose and mouths are smaller in comparison.
- Whiskers are always present somewhere on the head, more commonly on the cheeks, but on rare occasions at the top.
- Their ears have similar shapes and a characteristic fur tuft on the tip.
- Vinxes can grow beautiful and long locks of hair, which they take pride in. Even when they opt to keep it short, these creatures seem to be rather vain about their hair and will only accept expert hairdressers to style it. Some Vinxes can stubbornly keep their hair really, really long if they don't find someone who can properly handle it the way they want.

2. Body:
-  Albeit small in stature, they can reach up to 1,20cm (3ft 11in) in size, and weigh between 15 to 25 pounds (7-11 kg) at their maximum growth.
- Their bodies are rather nimble, allowing Vinxes to jump to higher places and squeeze between smaller ones, as long as their head can fit through.
- All Vinxes have a mane around their neck, which they are equally fond of as much as their hair.
- Vinxes can present markings that show more strongly on their upper rear and shoulder regions, with more faded speckles of said markings being possible between those two spots.

3. Tails:
- Vinxes may have one to three tails, two being the most common number overall.
- Their tails are commonly longer than their bodies, but smaller tails do exist.
- The markings presented on this region may be different from those on the body.
- They may present an assortment of different tail shapes, usually similarly seen on members of the canidae and feline families.
- Some Vinxes can grow flora on their tails, but it is yet to be known as to why this rare phenomenon happens.

Trivia

- A group of Vinxes is known as a Vex. Ex.: "A vex of vinxes"
- A baby Vinxe is called a "kuttie".
- Vinxes generally enjoy taking baths (especially of the bubble variety) and can hold their breath underwater.
- They are able to read, learn, and teach.
- They can be found in any of the Cascade layers, but their presence is equally elusive in all of them.
- Their reproduction is entirely a mystery; they don't seem to have visible reproductive organs, but claim their own genders even though nothing really seems to indicate any clear dimorphism between one another. It happens so rarely that scholars cannot study it, and Vinxes themselves refuse to elaborate. They tend to be incredibly upset when asked such personal questions.
One day, they might just show up with a young kuttie, and that is that. Regardless, Vinxes seem to be great parents who will dot on their children and patiently teach them the ways of life until the little ones are capable of handling it by themselves.
